Avid What is Avid? AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an internationally recognized program designed to prepare students for success in colleges and universities. AVID students enroll in college preparatory classes and in an AVID elective class. The AVID curriculum focuses on developing the study skills and academic skills necessary for success in high school and beyond. The Harbor High School AVID program offers college preparatory activities, skill development, career building, personal mentoring, and group tutoring. Who can be in AVID? Students who are in AVID: Want to be in the program Have the potential and the desire to go to college Are serious about succeeding in school Possess individual determination and a sense of responsibility Have a 2.0-3.5 GPA Have good attendance Have a good behavior record Have average to high standardized test scores AVID students have a very high success rate . Tutoring: Twice weekly, you will work in tutorial groups with a college or student-trained tutor to go over difficult material and study for tests. Career Building: You will explore career options through research to determine what education level is required for specific careers. Regular guest speakers will share their professional experiences and careers with the class. Classroom Community: You will participate in many community building activities with you classmates, where hopefully, you will build strong relationships and learn to trust each other. Harbor High Music! We are so happy that the Harbor Music Program is growing! With new classes, growing ensembles and new connections being made in music, it's an exciting time to be a Pirate! Our program. Harbor High School is proud to offer a comprehensive music program for students in grades 9-12, with a AA Concert Band, Concert Choir and Jazz Band as well as Guitar and Music Production classes. Students experience a broad range of musical styles from jazz to pop to classical. Many of our students are recognized at the local and state levels. Students rehearse throughout the year and perform in the community and around the state at competitive competitions. Harbor High School Music Department strives to provide a well-rounded music education to all students. Students participate in a variety of musical experiences that will positively impact their life and provide them with a culturally aware outlook and appreciation for the arts. Participating in a performance ensemble gives students the opportunity to grow as a group and and as an individual. Students will create musical experiences that can never be completely replicated. This unique experience allows students to develop critical life skills such as individual and ensemble etiquette, problem solving, and collaboration. All music courses are taught by Di llon Baiocchi , a multi-instrumentalist performer, music producer, educator and composer. Mr. Baiocchi began his musical career as a saxophonist before branching out into multiple woodwind instruments, analog synthesizers, music production, mixing, recording and composition. Mr. Baiocchi earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, where he lived and studied for three years. During this time, he composed and performed with his band the Dillon Baiocchi Quintet and received a DownBeat Student Music Award for his composition Mountain Road. He also toured New York and Canada with the Franky Rousseau Large Band. Baiocchi studied extensively with esteemed jazz musicians Myron Walden, Vincent Herring, Lee Konitz, Reggie Workman, Dave Douglas, George Cables and Darcy James Argue. Mr. Baiocchi later moved to the Netherlands, where earned a Master of Music degree from Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam (NL). During his five years in Rotterdam, Baiocchi was a founding member of three musical projects that performed and toured across Europe, playing at clubs and festivals in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium and the United Kingdom. He is now happy to be back in his hometown of Santa Cruz, teaching and sharing his passion for music.
